Parsons Beach Road Tree Canopy Project, completed first phase!
The town of Kennebunk has been pruning and taking out Norway Maple trees along the walk and replacing them with native White Oaks. The Norway trees were planted in the 1920’s with a 60 year life expectancy. Weather, winters, and road work have caused them to deteriorate after a longer than expected life. Their foliage is a welcome shading on the 10 to 15 minute walk from Shorelands to the Beach.
About half the trees have been taken out, so there will still be quite a bit of shade until the White Oak replacements have grown enough to compensate.
Anyone interested in helping donate a tree with a commemorative plague can do so by contacting the Town Of Kennebunk, 1 Summer St, Kennebunk, ME 04043. Donations are $2000.
Shorelands offers attractive off season packages and invites visitors to come and enjoy the stroll to the beach. http://www.shorelands.com/
